CHIP Hospitality is one of Canada 's leading hotel management companies and currently manages more than 30 hotels and resorts in Canada employing approximately 5,000 hotel staff who service more than 7,000 rooms. A subsidiary of CHIP REIT, (Canadian Hotel Income Properties Real Estate Investment Trust), the company manages independent hotels and hotels operating under major franchise brands including some Delta Hotels, Crowne Plaza , Radisson, Residence Inn by Marriott, Holiday Inn, Hilton, Quality, Gouverneur, Best Western, Ramada and Coast properties. |

The Challenge
Operating with a relatively small IT staff, CHIP Hospitality was faced with the challenge of keeping current with rigorous security and regulatory compliance demands like Ontario's Bill 198 and the Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Act in the United States. In addition, the nature of the hotel business requires secure, reliable 24x7 system availability where speed and responsiveness are critical. CHIP needed to effectively parcel out their IT activity to a provider who had knowledge of compliance issues, could meet performance reliability requirements and have the ability to scale. CHIP Hospitality selected Fusepoint Managed Services to fully manage all mission-critical IT infrastructure and applications related to their centralized network system. This includes safeguarding their revenue-driving applications, including CHIP's accounting systems for all hotel and resort properties, Microsoft Exchange and communications systems, and hospitality-specific sales and catering systems.
Results
Once concerned about the segregation of duties of their IT staff focused on SOX and other regulations, CHIP has significantly reduced the risk of non-compliance by moving to a structure where the same people with administration privileges for example are no longer the same people who manage the network. Chip's IT team is now empowered to think and operate more proactively. According to CHIP's Director of IT, Peter Smolik - "We've seen a 15% efficiency improvement in data processing". |
