Senior Network Engineer

The Senior Network Engineer is part of the 3-tier technology-based national Operations team that works to support Fusepoint’s customers and internal users. The goal of the Operations team is to ensure services are available on a 24x7 basis with minimal interruptions which may be caused by physical or virtual threats, such as power failure, hardware and/or connectivity failure, security vulnerability, virus attacks, etc.  Supporting customers is the first and foremost priority of the role of the Network Engineer. The Network Engineer troubleshoots and closes off escalated trouble tickets relevant to networking issues assigned by the 2nd level support technician or by his/her manager within the timeframe required by Fusepoint’s Service Level Agreement (SLA).  The Network Engineer assumes overall accountability for customer technical issues through maintaining technical communications internally as well as with our client, creating documentation, troubleshooting, and finally, closing or escalating trouble tickets to L4 engineers.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Manager, Network Services you will be involved in all aspects of customer solution design, deployment, support, and Network security and troubleshooting. The Network Engineer provides 3rd level technical support for both client and internal networks and network infrastructures. This involves performing ‘hands on’ network troubleshooting and maintenance, responding to client and internal requests (e.g. applying firewall rules and implementation of configuration changes), deploying customer solutions, applying hot fixes, ensuring the integrity of the overall network and all networking devices (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers etc), and customizing network set up for different system environments.  In addition, the Network Engineer will provide 24x7 3rd level technical support coverage during a rotation on-call schedule, assist with the planning and implementation of network infrastructure and policies, perform special projects, mentor level 2 network engineers and other duties as required.

Required Skills and Knowledge:
• Minimum 5 years experience in a technical support role for medium to large scale Networks, preferably in a Data Centre environment.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP and routing/switching protocols.
• Experience working with security products such as firewalls, RSA, RADIUS servers and VPN concentrators.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem solving and fault isolation abilities including sniffing network data traffic using protocol analyzers.
• In depth understanding and knowledge of LAN and WAN architectures, Ethernet technologies, BGP, MPLS OSPF, EIGRP, VOIP, QOS, VPN, and IPSEC.
• Experience with Network design, implementation, and management.
• In depth, hands on exposure to switches, routers, firewall and load balancers in a production environment. Specifically, working knowledge
  and experience with Cisco technologies such as 6500 Catalyst switches, 7500, 7200, 3600, 2600 routers, ASA and PIX firewalls
  and CSS11XXX load balancers, Checkpoint firewalls, F5 Technologies, Barracuda (NC2000) Local and Global Load Balancing.
• Working knowledge of Network managements/monitoring tools such as CiscoWorks, Nagios, and OpsWare is considered an asset.
• Strong written/verbal English communication skills
• Bilingualism (French & English) is considered an asset
• Must be willing to be on-call including evenings, weekends and holidays
• Willingness to travel within Canada on occasion as required.
• Familiarity with ITSM/ITIL processes and methodologies is considered an asset.
• Proven ability to manage change and changing priorities

Required Education:
• University degree and/or IT Diploma from a recognized technical institution.
• Certifications are an asset – CCIE, CCNP, CCDP, CCSP, ITIL etc.
